Leading Teacher & Author Jane M. Healy to Deliver Speech on “Influence of Technology on Education"

Best-selling author and educational psychologist Jane M. Healy will discuss how technology is not the solution to education’s problems and why educators need to take charge of the use of technology in the classroom.

Sept. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Leading teacher, educational psychologist, and author, Jane M. Healy, Ph.D., will focus her lecture on “The Influence of Technology on Education,” on Monday, September 26, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. in the Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The lecture, the second in a series on “Technology’s Impact: How it Shapes Our Lives,” is cosponsored by the Adelphi University Faculty Senate and the Offices of the President and Provost. This is free and open to the public.

Some of Dr. Healy’s key points will include how technology is not the solution to education’s problems, the pros and cons of technology use in classrooms, and why educators need to take charge of the use of technology in their classroom practice. She will also discuss technology’s contribution to collaborative learning; the “digital divide,” between those who have access to technology and those who don’t; and the potential technology has in helping or interfering with human progress.

Among her many notable achievements, Dr. Healy has twice been named “Educator of the Year” by Delta Kappa Gamma, the professional honor society of women educators. She is a teacher and educational psychologist who has worked with young people of all ages, ranging from preschool to graduate school. Dr. Healy is currently a lecturer and consultant, as well as the author of three books focusing on how children do and don’t learn: Your Child’s Growing Mind, Endangered Minds, and Failure to Connect. She has been featured in national media, including CNN and NPR.
