Sept. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Entries are being invited for Cycle the Cities of the World, a global online competition from cyclingmobility (http://www.cyclingmobility.com), the international journal championing greater cycling mobility in urban areas.

Facebook users from around the world are asked to submit photographs which meet the brief: “capturing the essence of cycling mobility”. The winning photograph will be used on the cover of the December issue of cyclingmobility, and the winning photographer will receive a package of fantastic prizes.

The Cycle the Cities of the World competition is designed to raise awareness of the positive impact that cycling can make as a transportation mode in urban areas. cyclingmobility is joining forces with leading cycling influencers, including CTC (the UK’s national cyclists’ organisation) and the  European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF).

The competition can be accessed through the cyclingmobility Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/cyclingmobility). For four weeks from September 16th, Facebook users will be able to submit photos, as well as voting for those they think best meet the competition brief.

The ten photos with the most public votes will make it through to the semi-final. A second round of public voting will nominate three final photographs which will then be submitted to the expert judging panel to decide the competition winner. The winning photograph will be announced on October 13th.

Ross Ringham, Editor in Chief of cyclingmobility, says: “The benefits of cycling are too numerous to mention. Unfortunately, urban planners and decision makers often do not have cycling high on their agenda. The resulting inadequate infrastructure and education means that fewer people bike or walk instead of using cars and other forms of transport costly in terms of the environment, individual and public health and the economy. Through cyclingmobility, we aim to share best practice from around the world to ensure cycling is recognised as a viable transport alternative in urban areas. We’re excited to be working with important organisations such as CTC and the ECF, both to raise awareness and to have some fun – another important aspect of cycling!”

Manfred Neun, President of the European Cyclists Federation commented: “This competition is really a great initiative. The bicycle is a simple solution to many transport problems that plague urban areas. From congestion, to pollution to improved health and reduced government spending, the bicycle has something to offer decision makers. I simply can’t wait to see the photographs.”

Cycle the Cities of the World competition is open to all Facebook users around the world. To enter your photo, visit the cyclingmobility Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cyclingmobility.
