Spaceworks among New Zealand's Best

Sept. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- An eclectic scheme of floral patterned graphics and raw wood features has earned Auckland-based Spaceworks Design Group a slot as a finalist in this year's New Zealand's Best Design Awards. The competition has recognized the award-winning international firm for the eye-catching space it created with skating retailer Learning Curve. Visible from the street through large windows, the design's swirls and bursts of colour contrast electrically with the shop's solid grey walls, creating an interesting and inviting space to browse.

Only a few months previous, the commercial design firm took home a pair of prestigious awards. At the start of the summer Spaceworks (http://spaceworks.co.nz) won an international design competition, accepting the Fly Forbo Award and an added perk: a trip to London to experience current European interior design trends first-hand.

The New Zealand Retail Interiors Association proved equally impressed with the firm at June's Retail Design Awards, awarding Spaceworks (http://spaceworks.co.nz/space-planning.html) best graphics and display for its work with K Rd Skate shop.

Originally known as The National Design Awards, New Zealand's Best have been celebrating design since the mid-seventies, giving New Zealand designers an avenue toward broader recognition while fostering greater appreciation for the discipline. The focus of the Awards has gradually expanded from graphic design to include interior, fashion, craft, and product design.

Among Spaceworks' competitors in the New Zealand's Best Awards are the designers of the Auckland International Airport's dramatic interior and the creators of the ultra-modern take on a traditional space at Papakura Library.

Spaceworks has been a great success not only critically, but also in the eyes of their clients. The firm gets high marks from one client for being "stylish, professional, and practical," while another appreciates the group's all-inclusive design philosophy, saying "you did so much more than just put together a set of plans to build from."
