Sunvil Discovery ups its tailor-made game in Norway and Sweden this winter

-Freedom, flexibility and independence are at the heart of every Sunvil Discovery holiday-

Sept. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Sunvil Discovery this year features more tailor-made itineraries and activities than ever before to the winter wonderlands of Norway and Sweden. With winter 2011/2 predicted to offer the most spectacular Aurora Borealis displays in 50 years, the Scandinavian specialist is also offering a number of themed Northern Lights experiences to maximize the chances of seeing this natural wonder.

Flexible tailor-made trip options include:

Lofoten and Tromsø - Prices from £1,369 pp
Explore picture-postcard fishing villages and dramatic hiking trails in this pristine archipelago, before relaxing on a Hurtigruten river cruise and soaking up scenic Tromsø (the largest Nordic city north of the Arctic Circle). Northern Lights excursions are a great add-on option in Tromsø.
Includes three nights’ self-catering in a traditional Rorbu (fisherman’s cabin) on the Lofoten islands, a one-night cruise on the Hurtigruten, three nights’ B&B in Tromsø, return flights (London), domestic flights and private transfers.

Stockholm and Kiruna – Prices from £1,480 pp
Contrast the bright lights of sophisticated Stockholm with the wild environs of Camp Ripan in Kiruna, where a whole host of winter activities await – snowmobiling, dog sledding, horse-sled evening trips and an excursion to the Aurora Sky Station, one of the best platforms for viewing the Northern Lights located in the mountains of Abisko National Park.
Includes three nights in Stockholm and four in Camp Ripan (both B&B), return flights (London), domestic flights, private transfers and a 48-hour Stockholm Card (provides free public transport and entry to attractions). The seven-hour Aurora Sky Station excursion costs £225 pp and includes dinner, transfers
and warm clothes.

Stockholm and the ICEHOTEL – Prices from £1,136 pp
Alternatively, tag on a stay at the world-famous ICEHOTEL in Kiruna, a must for any visitor to Swedish Lapland. Snuggle up in your snow room, marvel at the sculpted snow and ice and enjoy a drink or two in the ICEBAR.
Includes two nights in Stockholm and two at the ICEHOTEL (both B&B), return flights (London), domestic flights, private transfers and a 48-hour Stockholm Card (provides free public transport and entry to attractions).

Tromsø and a Hurtigruten cruise - Prices from £1,277 pp
The famous Hurtigruten Express has been breathing life into Norway’s remote villages for over century. Sunvil Discovery offers its clients the flexibility to select the Hurtigruten departure point and destination of their choosing, and to incorporate their coastal voyage within a tailor-made itinerary. A variety of Hurtigruten cruises is available and can be tagged on to any trip.
Includes a three-night B&B stay in Tromsø, a four-night cruise between Tromsø and Kirkenes (return) on a full-board basis, flights (London) and private transfers.

Located 70° north and 350km above the Arctic Circle, Tromsø is considered to be one of the best places to experience the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis. It was here that Joanna Lumley fulfilled her lifelong dream of witnessing this magical event. Led by the same guide who accompanied Lumley on her search, Sunvil Discovery features a six to eight hour ‘Chasing the northern lights’ tour, which offers a greater chance of sightings by moving from place to place to explore the spectacular landscape surrounding the city. The price of £243 pp includes transport, a thermal suit and shoes, coffee and biscuits.

Alternatively, try a ‘Northern Lights excursion’ (£110 pp for four hours, including transfers, warm clothes and a hot meal), which allows participants to escape the city lights, enjoy a toboggan ride or snuggle up in a Sami tent to wait for the Aurora Borealis to (hopefully) show. A four-night break to Tromsø costs from £832 pp (two sharing) including return flights (London), private transfers and B&B. Sunvil’s hot tip for spotting the Northern Lights: travel for at least four nights at the time of the new moon, when the sky is at its darkest.

Alongside a wide choice of dog-sledding, snowmobiling and Northern Lights excursions in both Sweden and Norway, more unusual winter activities offered by Sunvil Discovery include ice fishing, Sami cultural tours, an insight to ‘the everyday life of a musher’, an ice sculpting lesson, a guided tour of Esrange, Europe’s only civilian space centre and a Moose Safari. See here for full details of its winter excursions from North Sweden and here for activities in North Norway (including prices).
