Sept. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA: --- Boutique travel specialist, Beacon Holidays is proud to launch a series of Foodie Trails through the cultural precincts of Melbourne’s CBD, Brunswick and Dandenong.

Introduced in November 2010 Masala Trails has been a thriving success, taking locals and tourists alike on a cultural journey, to the vibrant Indian restaurants and markets in Melbourne’s CBD and Dandenong – better known as “Little India”.

Launching under the banner of Foodie Trails, guests now have a selections of cultural experiences to choose from. Wonder through the bustling Sydney road in Brunswick and get a small taste of a Turkish Trail. Showcasing some of the oldest Turkish eateries established in the 70’s, experience some of the most authentic flavours right here in Melbourne’s backyard. Soak up the atmosphere with a plate full of Turkish ‘meze’ and a strong cup of Tea infused with cinnamon or just a little bite of some sweet ‘baklava’.

Adding to the foodie trails portfolio are the African Trails, taste the blends of spices, in a bowl of fufu, a piece of Biltong (a well seasoned strip of wind dried beef, game or ostrich meat), a warm piece of Injera (Ethiopian bread) or matoki (lamb stew). The influences of Indian, Malay, French and British to name a few have blended into this rich and flavoursome cuisine.

Showcasing the diverse tastes, spices and secrets, with local market tours and cooking classes to Michelin star restaurants, a culinary journey with local experts on Beacon Holidays’ international Foodie Trails to India, Turkey and South Africa takes the discerning traveller on a spice route to some of the dazzling cuisine capitals of the world.

“Culinary tours have now come to the forefront of special interest travel programs. So Beacon Holidays has designed an introductory culinary tour in Melbourne that not only showcases a taste of things to come on our international Foodie Trails program but also introduces the guest to the spicy flavours and dishes as well as the history of these foods, which have influenced many cultures and imperial courts for over 5,000 years,” says Himanshi Munshaw – Luhar, Director of Beacon Holidays - Asia Pacific.

The three hour tours starts at convenient locations; Melbourne’s CBD Brunswick and Dandenong. On each trail guests will taste much more than tikka masala, kebabs and baklava. Guests will savour a multitude of flavours that have found their way through Europe, Africa and India. Additionally, guests will embrace the colourful cultures as the tour guide highlights the complexities of cooking before enjoying a sumptuous, three-course meal and a variety of desserts.

Showcasing their new products for the first time at the ‘Taste of Melbourne’ at Royal Exhibition Building this September 15-18th, there will be some mouth watering deals including a prize drawn every hour and a grand prize of a 6 night culinary escape to South Africa. Entries are accepted online at http://foodietrails.com.au/Deals.php  or at the stand located in the gallery level.

Groups from 4 up to 14 can book a tour, which starts at convenient locations in Brunswick, Melbourne CBD and Dandenong commencing at 11.30AM and finishing 2.30PM. The program includes a progressive three-course meal and visits to spice shops. The cost is $75 per head.
