Iona College Announces Appt of Brother James J. MacDonald, CFC ’79, As New VP of Advancement

New Rochelle, (September 2011) Brother James J. MacDonald, CFC ’79, has been appointed to the position of vice president of advancement for Iona College. An experienced development executive, Brother MacDonald comes to Iona with over 30 years of managerial, educational and fund-raising expertise. One of his primary goals will be to oversee stewardship activities, by building and nurturing long-term relationships with major gift donors.
Br. MacDonald’s appointment is the result of the need for future expansion of Iona’s endowment initiatives while ensuring that the legacy of the Christian Brothers remains steadfast as part of Iona’s mission.
“I look forward to working with Brother MacDonald as he joins our team to enhance Iona’s advancement initiatives and partnerships. In addition to being a Christian Brother, he brings a dynamic combination of leadership and fund-raising experience which will foster and strengthen Iona’s network of generous benefactors and friends,” said Iona College President, Dr. Joseph E. Nyre.
“I have a personal connection to Iona College, and bring significant commitment as an alumnus, a former trustee, and member of the presidential search committee. Being part of the executive transition to lay leadership is a very rewarding and challenging opportunity. I will be assisting the team with generating as much friend and financial support to the Mission of Iona College,” said Brother MacDonald.
Prior to this appointment his most recent position was as executive director of advancement for the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers of North America. His career experience includes: president of Boston’s Catholic Memorial School, principal of Tampa Catholic High School, director of Educational and Youth Ministries, San Marco Parish, Florida, development director of St. John Neumann High School, Naples Florida, department chair of Bishop Kearney High School, Rochester NY, and teacher at Iona Grammar School, New Rochelle, NY.
Brother MacDonald is a 1979 graduate of Iona College, with a BA in English; earned his master’s in school administration from Boston College; and studied at Catholic University of America.
