Bonaventure Cemetery After Dark Event Designed For Fun, Funds & Preservation FocusCemetery preservation jobs in Historic Savannah being lost, Shannon Scott creates event for 250 year old cemetery after the gates close at twilight & dark, drawing attention and funds into cemetery. Great for Halloween & groups!
Sept. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- What happens when cemetery preservation jobs start dying? One Savannah, GA man's answer, is to create an after dark event that will bring funds, fun and focus back to one of the great Victorian cemeteries of the South, Bonaventure Cemetery. Made famous in the novel & film, “Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil, this one time, 18th century plantation, receives over 300,000 visitors a year, but in spite of numbers, doesn't see much money from its own fame. And as of next week, preservation jobs are being cut. Shannon Scott, CEO of Bonaventure Cemetery Journeys, claims, “that's sad because old cemeteries require thousands a year for monument cleaning, stabilizing, and more.”
Previously closed at 5pm, according to Scott, his Bonaventure: The event runs every weekend through February, all 3 nights of Halloween weekend, and private groups can reserve on alternate nights for 10 to 30 people. Costs are $30 per Adult, $25 (12 & under) and is from 5pm to 8pm. Costs are slightly more on Halloween weekend. Reservations are necessary.
