A planned family vacation abounds in educational opportunity. Learn how homeschool specialist, Amy M. O’Quinn prepares beforehand.

The Working Writer's Club is a professional club for freelance writers, authors, coaches, and speakers providing training, resources, and networking opportunities for its members. The Working Writer’s Club is pleased to share with you the latest writing article from member, Amy M. O’Quinn entitled, “Educational Travel: Building a Knowledge Base for your Children.”

A sneak peak…

Ms. Quinn’s family is planning a trip to Charleston, South Carolina in a few days. Her husband wants to take their sons to see the World War II aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown, perhaps visit the recovered Civil War Confederate submarine, the H.L. Hunley, and possibly even make it to Fort Sumter. However, she and her daughters are more interested in carriage rides, touring a plantation, and walking around the old district to learn more about the history of this charming city while enjoying the beautiful architecture. Overall, it should be an enjoyable and educational vacation.

Although she doesn’t think that EVERY trip has to have an education slant, she believes that being familiar with what they are going to see and do before they go will help her children appreciate the experience. The ‘take away’ value factor will definitely go up a notch or two, but more importantly, their knowledge bases will grow by leaps and bounds…”
