Luvaas’ intriguing mixed media relief work transforms real life moments and scenery into a unique interpretation of the world. Luvaas’s artwork combines oil painting, acrylic, relief techniques, drawings, graphite, prismacolor pencils, oil bars and photography. Viewers are immediately engaged in the artistic virtuosity Luvaas conveys through her cutting-edge method of combining painting, relief techniques and printmaking. Lucinda’s art reaches out to viewers; the visual experience is engaging, beckoning the viewer to go deeper and further into Lucinda’s remarkable world. Luvaas has developed a new and innovative technique called “imprinting” "Lucinda makes us delve into the experience of enchantment. Using her specially developed technique that Luvaas terms “imprinting” -Dominique Nahas, Independent curator and critic based in NYC As to Lucinda's choice of subject matter: "I've always been affected by how fast the moments flee by and how we can't grasp them and say, "Hold up a bit!" Some moments are precious to us others not, but how can we grab hold and keep them close? "The Times of Our Lives," is an expression of this -- that life is going by so fast and I want to record it for history, for posterity.....capturing moments in time: gestures, expressions and profiles of people.... in a sense a celebration of time and life. My imprinting technique is well suited to recording and capturing people not so much as individuals, but as cameos that stand in for many others doing similar things. I want to express the throng of human activity and link to something universal in all of us. So specificity is not what I'm looking for, but rather a more generic sense of life and its many perimeters." -Lucinda Luvaas Lucinda's work is now part of the permanent archive at The Brooklyn Museum's Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. In addition to being represented by The Gregory Way Gallery, her work is represented by the Walter Wickiser Gallery in NYC/Chelsea, and her video art is represented by the Salamatina Gallery in NY.
