In association with Natureworks LLC’s upcoming "Innovation Takes Root Conference 2012", to be held at the Omni Orlando Resort in Orlando Fl, Feb 20-22nd ; Jim Lunt & Associates will be hosting a one day preconference workshop on February 20, entitled ”The Future for Bioplastic Feedstocks”

Plastics and their building blocks, derived primarily from renewable resources, are advancing and consolidating their position as  viable alternatives for both single-use disposable and durable, recyclable products.

However, as consumer awareness and therefore demand to displace oil based plastics increases, a new dynamic is emerging- Brand owners and consumers, concerned about impact on food prices and availability, are increasingly asking:

“When will you be able to use waste biomass products instead of food use materials to make bioplastics?”

Presently, the major feedstocks are sugar based, derived primarily from edible plants such as corn, sugar beet etc. Although companies are already beginning the transition to purpose grown industrial crops such as sugar cane, sorghum or cassava, biomass remains the ultimate goal
This one day workshop will address this question from three perspectives:

•   How justified is the concern over food-based renewable feedstocks for bioplastics?

•   Who are the emerging leaders in converting either waste product from the food chain or other non-edible products to bioplastics?

•   When can such a transition to waste biomass feedstocks and derived products realistically occur; what are the feedstocks already being considered; and what are the challenges?

Senior level speakers from established industries and emerging leaders will address the above topics in this unique workshop, organized by Dr. Jim Lunt of Jim Lunt & Associates LLC.
