Sept. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Porcelain tiles are classed in the same group as the ceramic tile family and are differentiated as porcelain and non porcelain tiles. Porcelain tiles go back a long way through history and originated in China where porcelain was renowned for and often referred to as white china.  Some forms of porcelain are used for ornament figures and plates and objects of value. The porcelain we often refer to as porcelain tiles is made a slightly different way with different ingredients. The manufacture of porcelain tiles involves two types of clay fired together at extremely high temperatures to produce porcelain tiles.

The first porcelain probably started somewhere in China where its popularity grew, through the ages more demand for porcelain products such as china cups and saucers saw increased popularity of porcelain.  Porcelain then began to spread throughout the world as its popularity grew and many other countries began to manufacture porcelain. Porcelain tiles can be found as early back as the 1700’s where they were commonly used in religious building such as churches and important homes and buildings.

Porcelain tiles are incredibly strong and durable and are popular tiles used as wall tiles and floor tiles, they are often characteristic of having a glaze which gives the porcelain tile a shine and this is a popular decoration for many areas of the home such as kitchens and bathrooms. There are generally two types of porcelain tiles, glazed and unglazed and both types are incredibly dense and hard wearing. Porcelain tiles will maintain their appearance and colour even in very high traffic areas and this is what makes them very popular with home owners.  Porcelain also has a very low absorbency rate making it ideal for wet and moist areas of the home.

Porcelain tiles are classed as an incredibly versatile tile that can withstand high temperatures and extreme low temperatures. They can be used successfully in many places within the home and as long as they are installed correctly and maintained they will almost certainly last a lifetime. Porcelain tiles are not the cheapest or the most expensive tile option but many home owners feel the cost is worth the strength and durability these tiles offer. There is a wide design choice available for porcelain tiles and home owners will have plenty in which to choose from.

Porcelain tiles are not commonly sealed and will wear well in high traffic areas and installed as wall tiles. Porcelain tiles are easy to clean and maintain and porcelain floor tiles should be cleared of any lose dirt before applying warm water either with a cloth or mop. The area should then be dried thoroughly after cleaning.

There are an abundance of porcelain tile choices on the internet and the internet is a good place to start looking for designs, styles and textures. Similarly all good tile stores will have an abundance of porcelain tile styles which will give home owners an idea on design styles.  Porcelain tiles can be used as floor tiles and wall tiles with great results and home owners can be content in the knowledge that they will last the test of time.
