Wake Tech Foundation Director to Lead National Board

Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. (September 7, 2011) — Mort Congleton, Wake Tech’s Vice President of Development and Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, has been named president-elect of the Board of Directors of the. Council for Resource Development (CRD) in Washington, D.C. CRD supports more than 700 community colleges across the U.S. by developing leaders through education, advocacy, and mentoring. Congleton’s appointment will be announced at the group’s 45th annual national conference, which takes place November 7-12 in Washington, D.C. He will serve a one-year term as president-elect, followed by a one-year term as president.

Polly Binns, CRD’s Executive Director, says she is “thrilled” to have someone with Congleton’s expertise on the leadership team. “Mort will help guide CRD’s strategic vision to provide the gold standard in professional development and advocacy for our members.” As president of the 2013 CRD Board of Directors, Congleton will be a leader in strategic resource development for community colleges nationwide and will represent the organization at meetings and workshops across the country. He will also preside over the CRD’s national conference.

Congleton has previously served as Treasurer and Regional Director for CRD. A former member of the Raleigh City Council, he joined Wake Tech as Foundation Director in 2005. Under his leadership, total assets for the Wake Tech Foundation have jumped from $2.4 million to more than $6 million. Before coming to Wake Tech, Congleton was Executive Director of the SPCA of Wake County and was instrumental in creating the vision for the nationally-recognized Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center.




About the Wake Tech Foundation:
The Wake Tech Foundation’s mission is to partner with corporations, foundations, and individuals to support Wake Technical Community College’s institutional and instructional needs. In the 2009-2010 academic year, more than 250 students continued their education with the help of a Foundation scholarship or emergency financial assistance loan. To date, more than 280 employees have received financial assistance to pursue their bachelor’ s or master’s degree, doctorate, certificate, licensure or other professional development through the Foundation’s tuition assistance program.
