Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Boston-area moving company Humboldt Storage and Moving is looking for a select number of middle schools in the greater Boston area to present a unique and exciting educational program that will talk about geography, history, math skills, road safety and how to handle moving to another location.

The Discover America program spearheaded by United Van Lines brings these topics to life in an exciting and interactive visit to middle schools. Humboldt Storage and Moving comes to the school in an 18-wheeler moving van, comes into the classroom to talk about geography and travel and then students are treated to a tour of the moving van. Students can walk through all parts of the truck during the visit. The visit takes just over an hour.

The visit does not stop there. Each month, through May 2012, students receive a postcard from “Driver Dave” with a question about where he is that week and they can chart his course across the country with a map presented to them during the visit.

A video of the program can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWmTgaMDA9Q

To book a visit for September or early October, call 978-568-1374. A limited number of slots are available during the season.

“Every school we have been to not only raves about how fun and educational the program is but is eager to have us back,” states James Sullivan, president of Humboldt Storage and Moving. “We have two goals when we come to a school; one to have fun and two, we want students to learn a little bit about places they might have never been to.”

Beginning in October and continuing through May 2012, “Driver Dave’s” route will interactively, through the classroom, “transport” students to 10 cities across the United States, including New York City, Denver and San Francisco. Each month, students will receive letters from “Driver Dave” along with picture books, postcards and various other souvenirs, highlighting the significant landmarks and sites located in each city. Students will discuss this material, calculate “Driver Dave’s” mileage and trace his route on a U.S. map. Students will also be able to keep track of Driver Dave’s side trips by logging on to www.unitedvanlines.com/uvl/driverdave
