Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- The Beaufort International Film Festival is seeking entries for the Santini Patriot Spirit Award. The festival takes place February 15 - 19.  To enter your film and for details about the film festival go to www.beaufortfilmfestival.com. The festival is produced by the Beaufort Film Society (www.beaufortfilmsociety.org). This will be the second year that the award will be presented.  The inaugural Santini Patriot Spirit Award was presented at the 2011 festival to Director Jonathan Flora for his Documentary, Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8QsC-wdeWA

The "Santini " is awarded to that filmmaker whose portrayal of the American military, veterans, or their families in a feature film, documentary, or short reflects the highest standards of service and sacrifice for the good of others. The award is named after Colonel Donald "The Great Santini" Conroy. father of Academy Award® nominated screenwriter and best-selling author Pat Conroy.

The mission of the Beaufort Film Festival is to enliven our community by fostering and developing a rich appreciation for the art of filmmaking.

The purpose of the festival is to recognize aspiring filmmakers of almost every genre to include feature films, animation, short films, documentaries, student films, and screenwriting.

It is also an opportunity to showcase the beautiful "film-friendly" region of Beaufort and the Carolina Sea Islands. For the past quarter of a century Beaufort has served as the backdrop for more than 20 major motion pictures, to include Forrest Gump, The Big Chill, The Prince of Tides, and many more. Through this festival we will reintroduce our sweeping marsh vistas, antebellum homes, and quiet charm of the old south to a new generation of filmmakers.
