Follow on Google News | UKSA and Gipsy Moth IV at Southampton Boat ShowThis year at the Southampton Boat Show, find out how UKSA can help launch a successful career in the maritime industry as well as view and sail historic yacht Gipsy Moth IV.
By: UKSA UKSA Director of Development Daryl Pride said: “The international maritime sector is exciting and dynamic, with countries such as China and India emerging as new markets. With a buoyant jobs market, even those individuals with little or no sailing experience can become professionally trained skippers and make swift progress in their careers. Our training courses are geared to ensure UKSA graduates can compete with the best.” Based on the British Marine Federation stand (B020), UKSA’s industry guidance team and dedicated course advisers will be able to provide all the information and advice visitors need to make an informed choice on a career in the industry. This not only includes explaining the wide range of courses on offer, but also the varied fleet and facilities available at UKSA’s waterfront campus in Cowes. UKSA also provides personal mentoring and industry guidance for students as they study, alongside access to a dedicated online jobs board which is available to both students and graduates. For those that come to the show to see the wide range of boats on display, Sir Francis Chichester’s Gipsy Moth IV will be attending with opportunities for members of the public to view and sail. The boat will be available to view, including getting onboard and below decks on 16, 17, 21 and 22 September at the marina. Visitors will also be able to watch her sail when she joins a flotilla of modern, vintage and other iconic boats that are taking part in the boat parades throughout the week. For those that would like the opportunity to sail this piece of British maritime history, there will be 3 hour trips running on 23, 24 and 25 September and corporate charter on 19 and 20 September. With the boat now given to new charity The Gipsy Moth Trust, the Trust will work with UKSA to ensure that Gipsy Moth IV continues to be used as a catalyst to help young people spend time on the water, build their confidence and learn new transferable skills which they can use in the future.
