The Biggest weddings of 2010
We have just crossed the half-year mark and what better time than now, to refresh your memory and catch up in time on some of the great moments in wedding history.... Here is a brief recap on some of the biggest weddings of the year 2010.
Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky
Chelsea Clinton, Daughter of former President Bill Clinton tied the knot with childhood friend and investment banker, Marc Mezvinsky on July 31, 2010, in Rhinebeck, New York. The wedding, the most talked about event of 2010, was nothing less than a royal affair boasting of a guest list of around 400 people. The bride looked stunning in a Strapless Vera Vang gown and the Groom wore a Burberry custom made tuxedo, as they exchanged rings and vows, beneath a beautiful white floral canopy. The reception was held inside a beautiful chandelier lit tent. The wedding cake was an eleven-tier chocolate, gluten-free Cake. This wedding supposed to be an intimate affair, reportedly cost somewhere between three and five million dollars!
Shoiab Malik and Sania Mirza
More closer to home, one of the biggest and most controversial weddings of the year, took place on the 12th april, 2010, as Indian tennis star Sania Mirzaand Pakistani cricketer Shoiab Malik tied the knot in a private ceremony. While the simple Nikaah took place in under 10 mins, the celebrations carried on for quite a long time. The Nikaah ceremony was followed by the Mehndi and sangeet ceremony in the next two days and ended with the walima ceremony, in Sialkot on the 25th of April, with more than a thousand guests attending the celebration. The walima alone cost a whopping 5 million!
Princess Gayatri Kumari and Prince Shivraj Singh
Shivraj Singh, son of former Jodhpur ruler Gaj Singh and Maharani Hemlata Rajye, is tied the nuptial knot with Gayatri Kumari of Askot, daughter of Rajwar Bhanuraj Singh Pal, in the traditional Rajput style. Around 14 charter planes were arranged to fly in the guests which included industrialists Kumar Mangalam Birla, Swati Piramal and Gautam Singhania, politician Amar Singh and King Gyanendra Singh. The royal procession included around 300 traditonally dressed Baraatis, was led by an elephant followed by the folk musicians.
Tanvi Jindal and Krishna Shete’s
Tanvi Jindal had herself a fairytale wedding when she married Krishna Shete, Son of Raju Shete, of the Radhakrishna Group. The marriage was held at Villa Le Rose, in Florence. The wedding functions included a welcome dinner, a brunch, a dance party, mehendi, and a post wedding Ball.
Sivanka Roy Choudhury and Karan Chanda
Sivanka Roy Choudhury, niece of Subrata Roy from Sahara tied the knot with Karan Chanda in a lavish wedding ceremony in November 2010. The wedding ceremony was followed by a grand reception in lucknow, with many big celebrities and politicos in attendance. A sumptuous buffet of Mughlai, Chinese, south Indian and Bengali delight was laid out for the guests.
Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva
Bollywood actor, Vivek Oberoi wed Bangalore based Priyanka Alva in a grand affair. The sprawling 6 acres Alva farmhouse was transformed into the wedding venue. The 4-day festivities, included the Sangeet and mehendi ceremonies, a wide variety of food and a fusion of Punjabi and coastal Karnataka cuisines. The guest list comprised of around 2000 people including important politicians of Karnataka and certain bollywood celebrities. A grand wedding reception, hosted by the Oberoi's was held in Mumbai's ITC Grand Maratha on October 31.
