Puppy Pupils Get Set for New School in Lincolnshire

It’s not just children who will be heading back to school this month. With classes which promise to be small, fun and full of the patter of tiny paws, Puppy School North Lincolnshire will open its doors on Monday 12 September 2011.

Sept. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- As the name suggests, the pupils of this school are of the four legged variety and uniforms are not required. Classes take place in South Kelsey, which is located between Brigg and Market Rasen, and is easily accessible for puppy owners in the North Lincolnshire area.

The classes are designed especially for puppies aged up to 20 weeks and with the aim of helping owners teach their puppy basic obedience and social skills.

Puppy School is an established UK-wide network of professional dog trainers who have been taught by renowned trainer and behaviour expert Gwen Bailey.  The six week puppy training and socialisation course has been carefully researched and designed for small groups of owners and puppies.

The lessons are run by Susan McKeon, who has successfully completed the Puppy Class Tutor training and been trained personally by Gwen Bailey.  Susan is also studying for a Degree in Canine Behaviour and Training and has worked with a local greyhound charity, volunteered as a dog walker with dog rescues, and worked within kennels.

Commenting on the start of classes, Susan said: “Puppy School classes make training simple and fun for both owners and puppies.  They’re a great way to help puppies build their confidence and for puppies to learn to focus on their owner, even with lots of distractions around them.

“Classes really do help lay the foundations to help puppies develop into well behaved and socialised adult dogs and family pets.”

Only kind, effective reward based training methods are used and classes cover basic training including: ‘sit,’ ‘stand,’ ‘come back when called’ and walking on a loose lead.  The classes also give puppies the chance to socialise with other dogs and humans in a safe and controlled environment.

As well as learning all about dog training techniques, all puppies and owners who complete the course receive a Puppy School rosette and graduation certificate.

The first course starts on Monday 12 September at 6.30pm, with a second course starting on Monday 3 October at 7.45pm.  Further details about Puppy School can be found at: www.puppyschool.co.uk and places can be booked by visiting: www.puppyschoolnorthlincs.co.uk or calling Susan on: 07792 279279.

Notes to editors

1.   Puppy School
Puppy School was formed in 2002 by Gwen Bailey, a renowned trainer and behaviour expert.  Setting high standards for training and responsible puppy/dog ownership, every aspect of Puppy School has been well researched.  All tutors have been personally selected and trained by Gwen Bailey.

Studies show it’s never too early to begin training and socialising pups.  The earlier it is, the easier it is – by the time puppies are six months old they are the equivalent to a 12-year-old human.

Based on behavioural research and a better understanding of how animals learn, tutors teach owners to train their pets using kind, reward-based techniques, rooted in science, rather than the punitive methods which are sometimes considered traditional.  This helps produce obedient, well-mannered dogs who are not timid or fearful and aggressive.
