Sept. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- The National Centre for Craft and Design in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, home to the very best designers and makers from the UK and beyond is to open its doors on 1 October. Currently known as The Hub, the centre will open under the new name with a refreshed brand identity reflecting its national status on Lincolnshire Day.

The Hub was established as a centre for craft, design and making in 2003.  Over the past eight years The Hub has developed a strong reputation within the national museum and gallery sector as a unique and ambitious gallery that exhibits the most innovative, challenging and accomplished artists practicing within the craft and design arena today.

With three exciting exhibition spaces, including the largest main gallery space in England, a roof top gallery and a vibrant window space it has certainly earned its new title.

Exhibitions on 1 October include Autumn a part of Metro-Boulot-Dodo’s Four Seasons project. The space will be transformed using a synthesis of a 16 speaker audio soundscape, interactive sculptures, video installation and a constantly shifting lighting state, to create an immersive atmospheric environment that takes the viewer through an autumnal 24 hours. The three other seasons are all on display in Lincolnshire including the premier of Summer at Lincoln’s Drill Hall.

Art, Motorsport and leather collide in the innovative Formula Fashion on display in the roof gallery at The National Centre for Craft & Design. Each of the specially commissioned art works in the exhibition has been inspired by the technology, design, iconography and culture of motorsport and created by top national and international designers.

Additional launch day activities include craft tasters and demonstrations, children’s activities, live music. The new branding and website will be unveiled and the history of the building will be on display in nearby Navigation House.

The official launch takes place from 11 – 1 with family events and activities open to all from 2 – 4pm.
