By: Kimberly Armitage The America Supports You Freedom Walk is a national tradition that calls on people to reflect on the lives lost on September 11, 2001, remember the brave firefighters, police officers and EMT’s who responded to the call of duty that fateful day, honor our veterans past and present, and renew our commitment to freedom and the values of our country. Each year the number of walks held throughout the nation grows, as more people are moved to participate. This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Centers. The 9/11 Freedom Walk will feature a walking timeline commemorating the historic events that took place on September 11, 2001, as well as to thank our local Firefighters, Sheriff’s Deputies, Police Officers and Military Personnel for the brave work they do every day. The Freedom Walk will begin at Veterans Park next to the Safety Harbor Marina, 400 Veterans Memorial Way, with a brief tribute to honor our fallen heroes. The 9/11 Freedom Walk will be led by Safety Harbor Firefighters and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputies. The walk route will head up the Marina and head south on Bayshore Blvd. along the linear greenway. The turn-around point will be the 7th Street South parking lot where walkers will then return to Veterans Park. Admission to the September 11th Tribute is free with parking available at Marina Park.
