Sept. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- The Greater Phoenix Chapter of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA Phoenix) is proud to partner with EcoAid in a commitment to sustainability for the 3rd Annual Carbon Neutral Golf Tournament, which will be held at the Arizona Biltmore on Friday, September 23, 2011.  IFMA is working with EcoAid to estimate the event’s carbon footprint that will result from energy generated at the golf resort, food production, plus air and vehicle travel of the players.  EcoAid then negates the impact of the tournament’s emissions by purchasing carbon offsets to make it carbon neutral.

“Carbon tracking and regulations on emissions continue to climb the ladder of hot topics for IFMA members, and we are excited to partner with them to make a positive impact on the golf tournament and educate the audience on how to mitigate the risks of their daily operations,” said Dr. Ken Pollock, CEO of EcoAid.

Carbon offsets for this event are being sponsored by EcoAid, a carbon consulting firm that promotes corporate and personal social responsibility by developing sustainability plans and green principles for companies to help them implement more eco-friendly business practices to lessen their carbon emissions/footprint. Offsets support projects for renewable energy efforts, reforestation and gas capture.

“As facility managers in our organizations and involved members of the community, we are always looking for ways to better our environments,” said Rick Corea, President, Greater Phoenix Chapter of IFMA.  “IFMA Phoenix is proud to educate our industry on sustainability and the means to make a difference.  Our annual carbon neutral golf tournament is just one way in which we do this.”

Another “green” aspect of the charity golf event is the Wacky Putter contest.  Wacky Putters are working putters made by IFMA members from an innovative use of recycled and repurposed materials, such as granite, semiconductor equipment, metals, etc.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. and awards luncheon at 12:30 p.m.  Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Habitat for Humanity.  IFMA Phoenix is grateful to the event’s Diamond sponsor, Ghaster Painting & Coatings.
