Sept. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Hall & Foreman, Inc. (HFI), a civil engineering, land planning, and surveying firm, has entered the 4th Annual Orange County CANstruction competition with an entry inspired by the Orange County I-5 Gateway sign.  The entry titled, “Orange County CAN Stop Hunger,” pays tribute to the firm’s Orange County-based roots.

“To celebrate our 50th Anniversary in Orange County, we designed an entry that honors our heritage,” explained John Hogan, P.E., LEED AP, HFI’s chief executive officer and principal.  “We have been a part of Orange County’s growth since 1961. Participating in events like CANstruction is our way of giving back to the community.  This is the 4th year we’ve participated and we are thrilled to be a part of the architectural and engineering design industry’s efforts to end hunger in Orange County.”

The HFI structure, located at Crystal Court on the first level near the Apple Store, is made of approximately 3,400 cans.  There are six different types of cans including Bush Baked Beans, Chicken of the Sea Pink Salmon, Chunk Light Tuna, Chunk White Albacore, and Bumble Bee Solid White Albacore and Chunk White Albacore.  The cans will be donated to the Orange County Food Bank at the end of the exhibit.

The generous support of this entry came from Brookfield Homes, Cbelow Subsurface Imaging, Moore Benefits Inc., US Cad, HBLA Certified Public Accountants Inc., Kidman, Behrens & Tague LLP Lawyers, RGP Planning & Development Services, ARC Reprographics SoCal Division, GMU Geotechnical, Inc., NUVIS Landscape Architecture & Planning, Chicken of the Sea, Bush Brothers & Company, and the employees of Hall & Foreman, Inc.

Team HFI, and all the teams involved in the event, worked during the night of September 2 so the displays would be ready for public viewing on September 3.  The displays remain on exhibit at the South Coast Plaza and Crystal Court through September 25 when they are dismantled for donation.

About CANstruction
Canstruction®, is a unique charity committed to ending hunger. The philosophy involves using ‘one can’ as a catalyst for change and to help put an end to hunger one can at a time.  Canstruction, the community service charity of the Society for Design Administration, was founded in 1992 to help promote the design community and raise food for hunger relief efforts. The events are a design competition in which local architects, engineers, and contractors design and construct giant structures made entirely out of canned foods. When the structures are dismantled, the canned goods are donated to local food banks.   For more information, please visit http://www.canstruction.org or http://www.canstructionoc.org
