Follow on Google News | Cafe Garden Sculpture, Art Exhibit Sept 16-18, 2011Cafe Garden Sculpture is a recycled, repurposed and edible sculpture created by GJ Atwood-Waller (glorijean) as part of the PA Energy & Sustainable Living Festival, 3D Sculpture that opens on Friday, Sept 16, 2011 in Kempton, PA.
By: GJ Waller The featured Garden Cafe Sculpture, created by glorijean (GJ Atwood-Waller) The vision for this sculpture is to repurpose a patio umbrella, to bring in light instead of shading the sun. Inspiration from Pennsylvania's nickname, the Keystone state, was realized by disassembling the form to realize the architectural structure. GJ continued in the art project by "painting with paper" by recycling images and words into artistic and visual expressions in the sculpture. Bringing an environmental component to the piece, she integrated science (ROYBIV) and gardening to make it a living sculpture and edible art. She has been recycling coffee bean packaging and transforming them into Cafe Totes, for plants and girlfriend gift bags. She incorporates these recycled bags with a global view and stitches on ribbons as their holders. She transplants garden vegetables, one for each of the 6 arms of the structure including: R- red cheery bomb peppers, O- orange pepper, Y- yellow pepper, B- bell pepper, I- eggplant, and a tomato plant. She muses that if herbs were available currently, she would have added lavender. The 3D living sculpture is an original design and concept, that GJ would like to collaborate with corporations to install in additional markets. All art is available for sale at the PA Energy Festival, that receives 10% of the sale. Whirling arms extend with their cheerful, colorful, edible muse... together with green advocacy, eco inspiration, natural building images and word art. This recycled, repurposed, sustainable, environmental and dynamic living sculpture is created using mixed media materials: metal, paper, solar, organic, gardening... It hopes to engage the community visually, tactilly, sensory, and poetically. This is a public event, and people in the region a re invited to attend.
