Cyberpunk Film "Reboots" Short-Film Genre

Sept. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Award-winning director Joe Kawasaki will helm a short-subject cyberpunk thriller, "Reboot", with Sidney Sherman ("Lonely Hearts") of Rosa Entertainment producing.  The script, which was also penned by Kawasaki, tells the story of a young female hacker who awakens from a traumatic event that she scarcely remembers, and an iPhone glued to her hand.  On the phone,  a countdown is ticking away to zero.  What happens at zero? Who is she, and why has she become an extension of the device?  As the minutes tick away, our heroine must race against time to put the pieces together before the mysterious, pending zero-hour strikes.

Now in pre-production, the film will commence principal photography in late-September.  Financing is being secured via the Producers, and through backers at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jkawasaki/reboot-0.

Sharing with some Kickstarter.com supporters who came together to help finance the production, Kawasaki said, "It (the film) was originally designed to simply be a great little ride, but as real world events keep developing around us (regarding issues of cyber-freedom, online privacy, security, etc.); the connotation of the film evolves and changes with it."

"Reboot" is a co-production of Sherman's production shingle, Rosa Entertainment, and DCGArts; and is slated for release in 2012.  The filmmakers are aiming for international film festivals like Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, Toronto, as well as distribution via the world wide web.
