Unique opportunity for wine enthusiasts to see behind the scenes of a wine show and taste the winner

Sept. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- To celebrate the 2011 Royal Melbourne Wine Show and the awarding of the 50th Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) is presenting an exclusive, money-can’t-buy wine experience for six wine enthusiasts.

An experience usually reserved for the Royal Melbourne Wine Show judges, the six winners will have the opportunity to join the Behind the Scenes Judging Tour (18 Oct). The tour will begin with a tutored masterclass wine tasting, with none other than the Royal Melbourne Wine Show Chairman of Judges, David Bicknell, before he begins the day of judging. Then, the winners will visit the judging area, observing the judging process and back of house to see the 3,200 entries and nearly 20,000 bottles.

The tour will provide an insight into the deliberations, evaluation and negotiation that goes into choosing the winners; it will explore the interpretation of style, the points system and reveal that there is not just one gold, silver and bronze medal, but there can only be one trophy winner.

Having observed the judging process, the six lucky vinophiles will be back 10 days later to see the results at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show Exhibitors Tasting (28 Oct). The Exhibitor Tasting is an event usually closed to the public as it is an opportunity for Wine Show exhibitors to network with winemakers, meet the judges, and taste and benchmark their wines alongside the 2011 winners.

This is a unique opportunity for the six lucky winners to rub shoulders with some of Australia’s best winemakers and taste from some 52 classes of wines including the 50th Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy winner.
