Aug. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- 16 year-old NASCAR Whelen All-American Series rookie Dylan Hutchison picked up a fifth place finish in a wild 75 lap feature on Saturday night at All American Speedway.  With the fifth place effort, Hutchison fell to fifth in the points standings but staying within striking distance of third.

Before a packed house for Fan Appreciation Night, Hutchison missed qualifying for the trophy dash by just .025 seconds, qualifying fifth with a 13.946 second lap.  The Fan Appreciation Night activities included an hour long autograph session, where Hutchison met with the fans and signed his Race Media Group-designed driver cards.

By the time the Late Model feature started darkness had enveloped the one-third asphalt oval outside Sacramento and the track took on different conditions from qualifying.  A nine car invert placed Hutchison fifth on the starting grid.

A wild start saw Hutchison make minor contact with another competitor but continue on unscathed.  Hutchison was passed by points leader Matt Scott in the scramble, but he was able to hold down the fifth spot for the next 11 laps.

Hutchison chased down Juan Pitta and took over fourth on lap 12.  Hutchison went on to defend fourth from former track champions Eric Schmidt and Jason Romero before loosing the position from Romero on lap 30.

Schmidt got past Hutchison for fifth just a few laps later, but the race was only halfway over.  Schmidt had mechanical problems on lap 52 that allowed Hutchison to reassume fifth place.

The lights went out in turn four to bring out a red flag but eventually the drivers agreed to continue racing despite the lights still being out.  Hutchison continued his strong effort battling back-and-forth with Pitta for the fourth spot.  After briefly taking fourth on lap 65, Hutchison settled for fifth at the finish.

The fifth place finish marks the rookie’s eighth top-five run and he is just 18 points out of third place with four races left in the season.  Hutchison’s next NASCAR points race is slated for September 3 with a 100 lap event on tap.  The 2009 WSRA champion is tentatively slated to make his Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series debut this weekend at Roseville racing in a 75 lap event for the touring series.
