Liverpool West Derby Families to receive £200,000 to protect their homes from future flooding
The families affected by last year’s flash floods in Liverpool will share £200k to protect their properties from future flooding.
Flood-resistant doors and Rytons DamRyt air brick covers which can be sealed before rising flood waters have a chance to penetrate into the cavity & sub-floor are just some of the types of products that could be used on the 57 homes in west Derby.
Liverpool council hopes that this large cash injection will help fund the improvements needed in Leyfield Close, Leyfield Road, Churchdown Grove, Crawford Close and Churchdown Road.
In total 57 homes including 9 Liverpool housing Trust priority properties will have flood protection measures implemented.
Councillors and residents alike agreed that anything that would help prevent another situation like last year’s floods would be welcomed.
Anthony Irwin From Rytons Building Products Ltd said:
“Prevention is always better than a cure. It is sensible to make sure you have plenty of sandbags readily available in times of flooding but it is also important you do not overlook flood prevention of your wall & sub-floor voids. We manufacture a simple to use range of flood prevention items that dramatically reduces flood penetration to wall & sub-floor voids at a very low cost. As the environment agencies say “Be Prepared by fitting purpose made flood products.”
