Aug. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- The Q7 was Audi's first foray into the luxury crossover arena, but since its debut the automaker has added the Q5, a smaller and less expensive crossover. The Q7 seats up to seven people in three rows of seats and can be equipped with a gas or diesel V6 engine. The Q7 is a few inches longer than the A6, and a whole foot longer than the S5. Despite being larger than the A6, the Q7 weighs exactly the same, thanks to Audi using aluminum for the hood, front quarter panels, doors and tailgate. That cut out 150 pounds, keeping the Q7 at 4,100 pounds.

The supercharged 3.0L V6 engine got an upgrade for 2012, adding eight horsepower and is now rated at 280 hp from the previous 272 horsepower. The addition of a new S-Line Plus Package for Prestige models is featuring 21-inch wheels with a titanium finish and Matte Black roof rails as well as window surrounds. Furthermore, the optional navigation system now adds Audi Connect capability which includes up to date Google Earth map functionality and a very handy set-up for Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity.

The 2012 Audi Q7 has a relatively sleek profile- for a crossover- of course, and it wears Audi's signature grille proudly. Adaptive xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights with LED daytime running lights and a panoramic sunroof are just a few of the popular optional features. Exterior features include a standard power liftgate and a choice between either 18, 19, 20 or 21-inch wheels. The interior demands elegance, and sprinkled amongst all that luxury you'll find the Q7's spacious rear seating rows will fold flat to provide ample additional storage space. The Multi Media Interface information and navigation system, which is an optional feature, answers almost any beck and call of the driver with it's enhanced voice activation system. So now you can speak your desired commands such as "I need gas" or "I need coffee," and the computer will map your closest options.

Standard interior features include lush heated leather front seats, a standard iPod/auxiliary interface, an optional Bang & Olufsen stereo sound system and an optional heated steering wheel for optimal comfort on those cold winter days.

Under the hood you'll find the Q7's powertrain lineup includes two supercharged gasoline V6 engines and a turbocharged diesel V6 engine, all of which team up with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Mechanical features include a 280-hp, supercharged 3.0L gas V6 in the 3.0T, a 333-hp, supercharged 3.0L gas V6 in the 3.0T S-line, a 225-hp, turbocharged 3.0L diesel V6 in the TDI which makes for 406 pound-feet of torque. Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive comes standard, while the adaptive air suspension remains optional. The Q7 boasts a maximum towing capacity of 6,600-pounds.

The 2012 Q7 has standard side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags for all three rear seating rows plus an electronic stability system. Some other safety features include standard anti-lock brakes, an optional rear backup camera and an optional set of second-row side-impact airbags.
