Consumers save up to 90% off local deals, 10% of all purchases go to a nonprofit of the consumer's choice, and buyers can track their donations and how it impacts designated nonprofit projects.
By: David Cheng “Donating has become highly commoditized. While there have been innovations in how donors give--most recently with the relief efforts in Haiti and Japan--there has been little innovation in how donors track the impact of their donations,” said Will Gossin, co-founder at GoHYHO. “After the donation is made, donors are disconnected.” GoHYHO wants to change that. They believe people want to be more immersed in the work being done to affect local causes. In order to facilitate that, GoHYHO directly connects a donation with information. “Our goal is to create a deeper level of connection and authenticity between individuals and causes,” said Gossin. Every user receives regular updates from the nonprofits to which they allocate their donation. Each of those updates contains detailed information about what the organization has done the past week, what the next steps are, and the impact it has had on people and the community so far. “We want the information coming back to the user to be near real-time. Most donors have to wait for an annual report, we want the information to come next week,” said Gossin. GoHYHO connects this rich interaction between people and local nonprofits to purchases at local businesses. Many local businesses believe supporting their community is part of their responsibility. GoHYHO provides an effective way for businesses to attract new customers while building sustainable loyalty and differentiates itself by treating businesses as a critical resource to supporting the community. “With our business partners, our goal is to help them succeed in the long run and in a sustainable way. We’re less interested in featuring businesses once and instead, really look to find ways to support businesses throughout the business cycle,” said Gossin. “After all, there’s really no good way to have a long term impact on locally relevant causes without a thriving local economy. That’s why we integrated both into our platform.” This desire to combine the needs of businesses and nonprofits drove the initial development of the platform. Gossin in fact describes GoHYHO not as a daily deal site, but as a platform for active citizenship. “GoHYHO was inspired by our belief that individuals, businesses and nonprofits are treated too often as isolated from one another. We want to create a new way to align the interests of those three groups so that when they help themselves they help others. Our goal is to cultivate reciprocal value in communities— To learn more about GoHYHO, visit http://www.GoHYHO.com or follow them on Twitter @GoHYHO.
