Covert Policing Conference announced

Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- The Investigator is hosting a conference aimed at providing best practice to SIOs and investigators of all ranks in the complex and ever changing area of covert policing.

Our expert line up of speakers will provide you with practical advice about how to make best use of the covert options available to you and how to navigate potential pitfalls.

Topics to be discussed include:
• Current challenges – infiltration on the internet, use of surveillance; covert tasking
• Witness Immunity from Prosecution – Assisting Offenders
• Providing best evidence for court – a prosecution perspective
• Best practice around the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA)
• Social media and its implications on covert tactics
• August riots and covert tactics

Speakers include:
• Charles Miller, former policy advisor to Home Office Covert Investigation Policy Team
• Kingsley Hyland, head of Complex Casework Unit at Northumbria Crown Prosecution Service
• Ian Hynes, Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team
• Steve Edwards, MBE, former Met officer and now trainer
