Summer is kept alive with new works by Jude Lobe

Aug. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- There are certain images that are conjured up when we think of summer. Scenes of an ocean, a beach, a swimmer and coastal marshes. Also, gardens full of colorful vegetables, bright colored annuals and, well, just bright colors.

Arrive at Hillsborough Gallery of Arts to see these images dance before you. Jude Lobe's Sunflowers, a long vertical painting, 20" X 60", that brings the sunflowers right to your door. And Lobe's large wall size painting, 30X40, of a coastal marsh with an egret taking off from the tall grasses. The way the reflections of the sky and it's fair weather clouds are represented in the water almost look as if the water is moving.To greet you by the window is a small 8X8 acrylic on birch wood painting of an attractive Ruddy Turnstone standing upon a rock by the ocean breakers. In the hallway are two plein aire paintings of quiet places we like to sit during the heat of the day. One is of a bench overlooking Lake Lure near Asheville, NC. The other of the river running by Ayrmont off St. Mary's Rd., in Hillsborough.

But Lobe is only 1 of 22 members and there's much more to see. Another large, 4X6 painting is Kim Wheaton's Swimmer gliding across the azure water. Then there's the bright annual flowers of Marcy Lansman's watercolors and acrylics with their profusion of  glorious color that can't help but make you smile. And what is summer without a few bugs to come for a visit. Lynn Wartski's copper and mixed metal sculptures of dragonflies, lady bugs, and butterflies are delightfully fanciful and would make the perfect accent in a garden or patio.

The gallery has many more visually appealing artwork to discover, afterall, there are 22 creative and energetic artists that can't help expressing their delight with the long summer days. Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is open every day. Monday thru Saturday, 11am - 6pm, Fridays until 8pm and Sundays, 1- 4pm.
