Tyler Smith, a Realtor Magazine “30 Under 30” Agent, Leads Real Estate Industry into 21st Century with Web Platform SkySlope

Real estate agent Tyler Smith, 27, of Folsom, Calif., was recently selected for the 2011 Realtor Magazine “30 Under 30” list of agents across the country.
Described as a mix of Donald Trump, Mark Cuban and Russell Simmons, Smith’s powerful marketing strategies led him to sell 170 homes with his team in 2010, ranking them at No. 4 in the nation out of 80,000 Keller Williams agents. With just seven years in the business, Smith believes he has discovered a missing tool to the 21st century real estate market: a seamless, paperless and mobile way for agents, brokers and buyers to complete a real estate transaction.
In 2009, Smith founded SkySlope, an online transaction management web platform geared toward brokers and real estate agents.
Smith began SkySlope after becoming overwhelmed with paperwork. As every agent knows, some 75 to 100 pieces of paper must be copied and distributed to many parties: the buyer, seller, mortgage lender and brokerage. In a world going mobile, wireless and green, Smith sought the help of web developers to create an online real estate storage software to replace file cabinets and storage facilities.
What resulted was a web platform that has changed his business, and as Smith believes, the business of real estate as a whole. In two years, the site now has 25,000 subscribers nationwide.
“Agents are mobile and they should have the tools to be mobile. We want them spending more time listing and selling properties and not bogged down doing paperwork,” Smith said.
The web portal also tracks email communications between parties, which is beneficial in case of litigation.
SkySlope has grown its subscribers by 40 percent in the past year, and it will soon release a feature that allows agents to obtain digital signatures.
By 2016, Smith projects his company will be the market leader in transaction management for brokers across the country.
Smith calls it a real estate agent’s dream come true in a changing, tech-savvy business climate.
