Aug. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- We are all prone to making mistakes and sometimes these can lead to an accident. We don’t intend for it to happen, it just does. Occasionally it’s outside of our control, but fault may still lies with us.

Something that is not beyond our control is ensuring we protect ourselves.

There are many types of Liability Insurance for businesses and individuals.

Here are some examples.

Car Insurance
You can not legally drive on the roads without a minimum of third party insurance cover. The third party element of car insurance protects you from claims for property damage and injury to other parties. This includes other road users and your passengers. If you are found liable for the cause of a traffic accident your insurer will deal with a claim on your behalf for damage and injury you caused to other members of the public.

Home insurance
There are two elements of liability cover available under a home insurance policy.

If you own a property then the buildings section of the policy will cover you for Property Owners Liability.  This enables you to meet any costs and damages awarded to a member of the public if they suffer an injury following an accident on, or linked to, your premises.

The Contents Section of a home insurance policy provides Personal Liability Cover against a claim or lawsuit resulting from bodily injury or property damage to others caused by an accident as a result of your personal activities either in your home or away, usually world wide. This protects you and all family members who live with you.

Landlords Insurance
If you own a property that is rented out, whether it is to private individuals or a business, then you should have Property Owners Liability Insurance which protects you against claims made by your tenants and members of the public in connection with the property.

Working from home
If you run a business from home you may have business visitors or visit your customer’s premises. Your home insurance is unlikely to insure you whilst carrying out your professional duties and therefore you should arrange some commercial insurance. Similar to home insurance a commercial insurance will extend to cover liability for visitors to your home office and also whilst you are away from the home.

Business Insurance
Employers' Liability Insurance enables businesses to meet the costs of damages and legal fees for employees who are injured or made ill at work through the fault of the employer. This is a legal requirement.

Businesses also need to consider having public liability, which covers any awards of damages given to a member of the public because of an injury or damage to their property caused by you or your business.

There are many other type of liability cover business may need to consider such as Products Liability, Professional Indemnity, Pollution and Directors and Officer Insurance.
