Yuma Regional Medical Center Developing Forth Floor to Meet Community Needs

Medical Center build out expands patient capacity with new beds, and private patient rooms

Aug. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) recently began developing space that will add an additional 36 inpatient beds. This will increase YRMC’s current 333-bed capacity to 369 beds.  The project will provide greater patient and family satisfaction by expanding our offering of private patient rooms.

“Our Board of Directors made a wise strategic decision in early 2002 when they approved and invested in a facility that included three floors of shelled space that could be developed when community growth and needs dictated it,” said Pat Walz, president and CEO. “The decision to expand the fourth floor space at this time is the result of consistently high winter patient volumes, especially in 2011. We continually strive to provide the highest quality of care and patient satisfaction, and believe that this bed space will provide both.”

A project of this size is typically a seven month process. However, this project is on an accelerated schedule with construction expected to complete in just over three months, the time frame between busy seasons, to meet the demands of YRMC's winter season and to ensure as little patient disruption as possible.

YRMC selected McCarthy Building Companies as the general contractor for the project. McCarthy has demonstrated its ability to deliver on the many critical factors of this project, including developing and meeting complex construction schedules; coordination of multiple crews working concurrently; use of high-tech resources that enhance construction quality and eliminate costly on-site conflicts; good relationships with local sub-contractors; and extensive experience with the construction techniques necessary while health care facilities are in operation to best ensure non-disruption of patients. Local subcontractors, which have already been selected for the project include Kris Kraft for casework and Delta Diversified for electrical work. The project's finish package bids will be released in mid-July, for which local subcontractors will be solicited.
