The Cowal Highland Gathering names Taggart star Blythe Duff as its Chieftain
Ms Duff will attend Scotland’s largest highland gathering at the end of August and will present the prizes to the winners in the World Highland Dancing Championships and the Cowal Pipe Band Championships.
The highland games have their origins in the Scottish Clan system and date back for over three hundred years. The Clan Chief would encourage his men to participate in feats of strength, skill and endurance to prove themselves skilled in battle. While the competitive elements of the games are still an integral part of the proceedings, the spectacle of Highland dancers and pipers, combined with the colour and grandeur of the Scottish scenery, make Highland games and gatherings a highlight for every visitor to Scotland.
Attracting more than 3,500 competitors - many from Scottish Communities-
Close to the games is the Selborne Hotel, part of the family owned Leisureplex Hotel Group. This superbly situated property includes 98 bedrooms with central heating and bath or shower and WC. If you wish to continue the festivities after the games have finished for the day there is also a bar lounge with dance floor where entertainment is provided most evenings. For those looking for something a little quieter then why not sit back in one of the public rooms and enjoy uninterrupted waterside views with a glass of Scotland’s most famous tipple.
