Jersey Fresh Artists is the brainchild of Diana Stewart, native New Yorker but long-time Montclair resident, member of the Montclair Public Library’s Foundation Board and all-around lover and advocate of the Library. Stewart invites artists who live and work in New Jersey to join Jersey Fresh Artists, although their work can reflect or represent anything and anywhere in the world. In addition to loving the Library, Stewart also loves New Jersey and gets touchy about comparisons to New York City. “I think it’s funny when people in New York or New Jersey believe that any real talent has to come from New York City. I don’t know where that snobbishness comes from. Charles Addams, Alfred Stieglitz, Patti Smith and Parliament Funkadelic George Clinton are all from New Jersey!” Stewart goes on to say about her adopted home state, “ We’re not just Jon Bon Jovi and My Chemical Romance – not that there’s any problem with those artists either.” The Jersey Fresh Artists show will be on display from September 1 – 30. And a gallery opening is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2PM. The artists range from the professional to the novice, with all artists living and working in New Jersey. Art work includes photography, painting, multi-media and clay work. Jersey Fresh Artists of note include Henry Gerstman, Craig Highsmith, Kathleen Heron, Sandra Duguid, Anne Avigdor, and Michael Greene.
