Aug. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- The JI Group, one of New York City’s foremost event producers and connectors in New York City with an extensive 30,000 member network within the young professional community presented a twist to their after-work events with a fundraising mixer to benefit Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC).  More than 200 influential business professionals gathered at Veranda NYC on Thursday, August 4th to support CPNYC.  Guests won raffle items including tickets to the Jay-Z and Kanye West, “Watch the Throne” concert (pre-sale) and tickets to the launch event for the play, “The Box”. DJ COMMISH provided an eclectic mix of musical selections. CPNYC is a non-profit organization that provides children, whose parents are or have been to prison, with intervention programs aimed at breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.

“We’re excited and honored to join forces with an organization like Children of Promise to change the lives of the children they serve.  Young professionals understand first hand how a helping hand can be instrumental in becoming successful.  We are glad to be able to use our network and resources to make a difference,” Calcie Cooper, Co-Founder, JI Group.

”We are thankful to the JI Group and everyone who came out for this event.  Children are very often the invisible victims who suffer when their parents are incarcerated.  Our goal is to help them move past the trauma on to healthy lives as productive adults in society,” said Sharon Content, Founder and President, Children of Promise NYC.

Children of Promise, NYC has impacted the lives of more than 80 families serving more than 300 children since 2009.  Each day, Children of Promise, NYC works to lessen the psychological and emotional effects of children whose parents are incarcerated through programs that include mentoring, academic assistance, recreational activities, and therapeutic services.  They provide a positive environment for healthy development and social acceptance. More than 80,000 children have parents in the New York State prison system.  And, over 50% of children with an incarcerated parent suffer from problems at school including poor grades and episodes of aggression. Without intervention, 70% of these children perpetuate the cycle of involvement in the criminal justice system.
