-- Nepean Hospital PET Centre is a newly established molecular imaging service situated in Western Sydney, employing the latest Philips Gemini TF 'time-of-flight' PET/CT system. The Centre is housed a new, purposed-designed and fully shielded facility, located in close proximity to the existing Nuclear Medicine Department .
A PET scan is a generated image of biological disorders at the molecular level, while a CT scan provides a detailed picture of the body's internal anatomy. A PET/CT scan combines the strengths of these two well-established imaging modalities into a single scan.
After evaluating the scatter radiation profile for the proposed premises, Health Physics (http://www.healthphysics.com.au)
was able to tailor an innovative radiation shielding design complying with NSW DECCW and ARPANSA statuatory requirements, at minimal cost to the client.
Staff are able to work confidently in the knowledge that their occupational exposure to scatter ionising x-ray and gamma radiation is as low as is reasonably achievable.
