Aug. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Energion Publications announces the August 21, 2011 release of a new book, A Living Psalter. This is one faith community's attempt to appropriate the ancient hymns of Israel in a postmodern context. This book is filled with poetry, art, photography, and short stories that provide creative reflections on the Book of Psalms. They invite the reader into a faithful, yet deeply human conversation with God. The creative work in this book covers the extremes of human emotion from exuberant praise to heart-heavy lament. It is a great resource for rediscovering the Psalter as the central prayer book of the church.

This project is the culmination of more than a year of effort by many members of First United Methodist Church in Pensacola, Florida and their friends. It was edited by Rev. Geoffrey Lentz, and coordinated by the staff of Energion Publications. Royalties will go to support the ministry of First UMC.

Geoffrey D. Lentz is a native of Pensacola, Florida and serves as the associate pastor of First United Methodist Church in his hometown. With a B.A. degree in Psychology from the University of West Florida and a Master of Divinity from Duke University, Rev. Lentz combines his knowledge of ancient church history with creative and innovative worship in his church's fourth Sunday morning service called ICON. This cutting edge, tradition rich, and Christ centered style of worship is rapidly becoming the example for the future of Christian worship. Rev. Lentz is also the author of The Gospel According to St. Luke: A Participatory Study Guide and co-authored Learning and Living Scripture: An Introduction to the Participatory Study Method.

A Living Psalter ( is published under the EnerPower Press imprint of Energion Publications, and will be available from Energion Direct ( and major online retailers.
