By: Muiriel Simpson Katrin Karuse, Assistant Manager of The Great Escape Coffee Shop has been awarded her fourth barista qualification. She was recently awarded her Latte Art Certificate to go with her SCAE Barista and Progressive Barista Skills Certificates and her Estonian national qualification. Katrin, 29, has worked at The Great Escape Coffee Shop, which is part of Moota Garden Centre on the A595 at Moota near Cockermouth for one and a half years, initially as a waitress and latterly as Assistant Manager. She is originally from Estonia and moved to Workington, Cumbria with her husband, Raoul, two and a half years ago. Katrin, known as ‘Kat’ to her colleagues and customers has a passion for great coffee. ‘I love coffee and I’m really pleased that The Great Escape Coffee Shop is known for its excellent coffee. As a barista, I taste our coffee every morning before we open to check that everything is OK, said Katrin.’ Katrin’s interest in coffee started in 2005 and developed in 2006 during six months of barista training in Estonia, where she was awarded an Estonian national qualification. Great Escape Coffee Shop owner Muriel Simpson said, ‘We pride ourselves in delivering excellent coffee. Kat’s barista skills have enabled us to raise our already high standards even further.’ The Great Escape Coffee Shop is a member of the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe who are committed to coffee quality and excellence.
