How to Reset Your iPod Touch if the Sleep Button Doesn't Work

Plug one end of the iPod touch USB cable into a USB port on your Mac or PC and plug the other end into the iPod.
Launch the iTunes application on your computer.
Click the iPod touch icon from the "Devices" list on the left side of the main iTunes window.
Click the "Summary" tab at the top of the window and click the "Restore" button.
Click the "Back Up" option in the dialog box that appears. The iTunes program performs a full backup of your iPod touch to ensure that no data is lost when the device is reset.
Press the "Restore" button once the backup process finishes.
Wait for the iPod touch to fully reboot and then click it from the "Devices" list again.
Click the "Restore from backup" radio button and highlight the most recent date in the list of backups.
Click "Continue" to restore the data to your iPod touch.
