Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- New York—Monclova and his (soon to be announced) Executive Board Team “Bold Resistance” are planning on taking over the C.O.B.A office in the June 2012 election. The entire team of seasoned NYC Correction Officers (C.O) are tired of the dysfunctional union leadership and representation that C.O’s are currently facing.

The current C.O.B.A President, Norman Seabrook, has been elected 4 consecutive times and is now serving his sixteenth year as president. Monclova believes that it's time for new union leadership in order to stop the stagnation and complacency of the current leadership. He states that all union members should be provided with the quality of representation they deserve and pay for.

According to Mr. Monclova, “It’s time for new blood. COBA simply needs a new president and a new executive board because they’re no longer effective in the job they were elected for. Many good officers are thrown in the street and brought up on erroneous charges and the union does nothing to help! They’re failing us every day. It seems like management treats the inmates with much more respect than they do the officers, and that’s because we have no union representation and have to fight our own battles; supervisors know that and take full advantage of it. Officers need someone to have their back all the time, and I’m that guy.”

Monclova and his team realize that they might be facing an uphill battle in this election, but they’re definitely willing and able to go the distance. He stated, “… what a lot of officers don’t realize is that we created the union and we have the power to re-create it to suit our needs, not the other way around. The bottom line is, if we don’t get the union representation we need we all risk losing our jobs, and if we lose our jobs (especially in this economy) the rest of “stuff” the union focuses on doesn’t really matter. Job security is the most important; we need a union that focuses on job security which also encompasses employee rights, job safety, wages, benefits and fair labor contracts. The union’s job is to serve its members…it’s all about the members.” The Bold Resistance website has an interesting point of view and reveals some personal reasons why Monclova is so dedicated to his fight for basic employment rights.
