Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Lakeland, Florida, August 10, 2011   ̶  Franwell, Inc. has been selected by the State of Colorado Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division (MMED) to deploy a system to track marijuana being grown and purchased for medicinal purposes. This groundbreaking program opens the door to all states that have deregulated medical marijuana to use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), to ease the burden of tracking marijuana for proper distribution and consumption.

The MMED was established under the Department of Revenue and is tasked with overseeing all aspects of Colorado’s medical marijuana program.  One important responsibility is the tracking of all marijuana from early growth stages to its final sale to each patient. RFID tracking of marijuana will capture information on the approved 6 plants allowed per patient, each stage of plant growth, distribution and final sale.  Whether a patient requires smokeable product or marijuana infused products (MIP) such as ice cream or salsa, RFID will track that patient’s product and allowance in accordance with state regulations. “Colorado is clearly leading the United States in the medical marijuana field.  They are the pioneers in tackling the monumental process necessary to track and enforce the lawful growing and sale of marijuana.  All states will be able to reap the benefits from Colorado’s example”, said Jeff Wells, Chief Executive Officer for Franwell.

Franwell is utilizing its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform Lighthouse™ and the Motorola MC9090 RFID enabled mobile computer, providing a robust yet flexible solution that will be integrated into the existing IT structure established by the MMED.  Most ERP systems utilize RFID as a “bolt on” feature requiring a middleware interface. Lighthouse was designed with RFID as a cornerstone, and it is integrated throughout all of its modules.

Franwell was successful in winning this bid due in part to their deep rooted experience in the agriculture, cold chain and pharmaceutical markets along with industry leading software technology. Additionally, their commitment to the State of Colorado and investing in a long term partnership to make the MMED’s program successful was a key factor in Franwell’s success.

Franwell is a technology company dedicated to the development of leading edge products and services with a focus on supply chain solutions and RFID integration. Founded in 1993, Franwell has pioneered Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Warehouse Management System (WMS) platforms as well as RFID track and trace software for the agriculture and cold chain industry.
