Zamorano University to Address 3rd International Conference on Bio-Fuel Crop Production

Staff from Zamorano University will present lectures on bio-fuels and soil management at the International Conference on Bio-Fuel Crop Production and Development.

Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Tegucigalpa, Honduras -- Zamorano University is pleased to announce its staff will present three important lectures to the 3rd International Conference on Bio-Fuel Crop Production and Development. The conference will take place from August 10-12, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.

The first presentation entitled ‘Evaluating Jatropha Curcas Biodiesel-Value Chain in Honduras’ will be given by Renan Pineda, Professor of Industrial Crops, Seeds and Grains at Zamorano. The paper will examine jatropha curcas (JC), a valuable alternative crop for the production of bio-fuels in Honduras. Project components such as agronomic productivity (intercropping and population density), crop promotion, germplasm bank, and biodiesel production will be discussed.

The second presentation is entitled ‘Integral Soil Management in Sugarcane Production in the Central Midlands of Honduras’. It examines the impact on sugarcane yield following fertilizer application according to plant phenological stage and seasonal conditions.

The third presentation is entitled ‘Integral Soil Management in Sugarcane production in the Northern Honduras’. It offers an impact assessment of bio-fuel development on land use change in northern Honduras.
