Hands up if you know what eLearning is?

A recent quest to hire new talent confirmed that outside of the L&D community, people don’t necessarily know what eLearning is. The proactive recruitment process offered a valuable opportunity to explain more about the industry to college students.

Aug. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Martin Baker, CEO of LMMatters - a Towards Maturity founding Ambassador - is eager to raise the profile of the eLearning industry, and a recent proactive recruitment process was the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Members of LMMatters staff visited IT students at the local further education college, to explain what corporate eLearning is, as well as give an insight into the trainee position which was on offer at LMMatters - the dynamic online learning organisation which is the UK partner to Harvard Business publishing.

Leigh Miller, 18, was taken on as a Trainee Learning Technologies Assistant as a direct result. The salaried role is a unique development opportunity: Leigh will be learning on the job, with LMMatters funding his further education on a part-time basis.

Martin Baker said he was particularly impressed with Leigh’s positive attitude: “Leigh really stood out. He impressed us with his enthusiasm and his enquiring mind, and seemed eager to pursue a career by working at the same time as studying. We were delighted to be able to offer him this great opportunity.”

Martin, named earlier this year as one of eLearning’s top ten ‘movers and shakers’, was instrumental in bringing the Harvard Business Publishing brand to the UK and has spent more than 20 years in the online learning industry.
He is working to raise the profile of eLearning, through exercises such as this one; as a Towards Maturity Ambassador; and through his collaboration with others within the industry - last year, for example, he attended the European eLearning Summit in Sheffield, organised by Learning Light, which has produced a Manifesto for eLearning.

LMMatters is a Founding Ambassador to the not-for-profit research organisation Towards Maturity, supporting its benchmarking research into learning technologies. Collectively the Towards Maturity Ambassadors have become a powerful voice, calling for greater recognition for eLearning - which can offer significant cost savings as part of a multi-media, blended learning solution.

LMMatters has also recently supported a groundbreaking Towards Maturity research project looking specifically at the effectiveness of online leadership and management development. The executive summary and full report Reinventing Leadership Development are available at www.lmmatters.com
