I Guess We'll Start Calling Him Graffiti Greg
Greg Furie's symbol art work has coined him the nick- name "Graffiti Greg?"
Furie has been doing symbolic painting for over 20 years. Recently one of his collectors, Mickey DeAsis, has coined his art as Graffiti. DeAsis has been collecting Furie's art for 10 years.
"His artworks have a flowing, ancient writing quality to them that reminds me of ancient graffiti that can be traced back to ancient Greece & the Roman Empire," said DeAsis. "His paintings contain interesting symbols. I don't know the meaning of these symbols, but I could easily picture them plastered on buildings & bridges. However, I think he'll stick to canvass," adds Mickey.
The term "graffiti" originally applied to a work of art scratched into a surface of a wall by a sharp object.. Today, graffiti basically means the same thing except for that the tools have changed and vandalism is associated to it.
Furie has never vandalized the side of a building with graffiti. Unfortunately, he never had that opportunity growing up. Oh well.
