Aug. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- "WET MATCHES" is  Randolph Camp's  inspiring story about five homeless teens (all HIV positive) getting a second chance at a better life when a California couple takes them on a cross-country trip to their new home. "WET MATCHES" is a Quarter-Finals prize winner at The Writers Network 14th Annual Screenplay & Fiction Competition.
Here are a few excerpts from this award-winning, uplifting drama...It seems that those who reaches down and pulls others out of the well, most often, are those who've been down in the well themselves.  When Jack Canaday was twelve years old he was once in the well...And now that Jack and Crystal have pulled Jalan and the teens out of the well, maybe in due time, they too will extend their hands to others trying to climb out of the well...In the midst of colorful storefront windows, we notice a boarded-up teen drop-in center cushioned between a laundromat and Middleton's Drugstore. The plywood enclosing the teen drop-in center is covered with large, spray-painted words "GO HOME", "WET MATCHES", "GET OUT OF OUR TOWN", ect...Evil lurks outside as we see two beefy Dodge Ram pickups slowly pulling onto the lot, parking next to the Canadays' rental Ford Escort. The six ominous-looking men we had seen earlier, standing in front of the church, are now sitting quietly in the parked trucks, eying the shabby two-story house with strong distaste!..Dense smoke and fierce flames are beginning to invade the kitchen ceiling as we find Jalan hastily grabbing white medicine bottles from the unlatched cabinet and hurriedly stuffing the prescription bottles into a draw-string laundry bag. Jalan dashes out the kitchen as the invading flames cover the cabinets along the wall!  The story of 'Wet Matches' has been with this country boy writer for a long time. Randolph  Camp's original copyrighted draft of 'Wet Matches'  was certified on September 29, 1993 (PAu1-794-275) by the U.S. Copyright Office, Washington,DC.  Some seven years later,  Randolph revised his original draft, and on October 2, 2000, the new version of 'Wet Matches' was certified (PAu002512961) by the U.S. Copyright Office. Over the years, this contemporary writer from the backwoods of Spotsylvania, Virginia would regularly have people within the entertainment and literary industry tell him that 'Wet Matches' should be a book. And it looks like their wish will come true in 2011.
