Aug. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Raleigh, NC, August 4, 2011 – Today, Soroptimist International of Raleigh, NC, in conjunction with fellow non-profit organization Stop Child Trafficking Now, announced plans for the 3rd annual fundraising Walk in Raleigh, NC on Sunday, September 25, 2011. The Walk is part of a global campaign taking place in 36 cities in the United States and Canada.  The event is hosted by Peace College and organized and sponsored by Soroptimist International of Raleigh, NC.

Stop Child Trafficking Now (SCTNow) stems from the 501(c) (3) Strategic Global Initiatives formed as “A Voice for the Vulnerable” dedicated to stopping child trafficking by targeting the source of child trafficking - predators who drive the domestic and international sex industry.

SCTNow has partnered with specially trained operatives to build cases and gather intelligence against predators who are driving the sex trade industry around the world.

The SCTNow mission involves a multi-phase plan to deploy and underwrite operative teams around the world in an effort to take predators off the street.  “Without the buyer—there would be no sex industry.  We tackle demand because it deals with the root of the issue,” states Ron Lewis, co-founder with wife, Lynette, who resides in Cary and New York City.

Though a majority of funding will go to the demand side of the issue, SCTNow also partners and funds non-profit organizations that are focused on the various facets of ending human slavery.

Last year’s Stop Child Trafficking Now Walk garnered 10,000 walkers in over 40 communities in the US, Canada and Australia raising nearly $750,000 dollars for the cause.

On Sunday, September 25, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and friends will walk to Stop Child Trafficking Now. The Raleigh SCTNow Walk is a two-mile walk and will take place downtown; registration begins at 1:00 pm on Delway Street at Peace College.

The Walk is open to the public. This will be a fun event, with music and entertainment starting at 1:00 pm. To register, visit www.sctnow.org. Select the Raleigh Event and join a team, form your own team, or donate and sign up other donors.  For more information about the Raleigh Walk, or to volunteer, contact Joyce Rothchild at jrothchild@soroptimistraleigh.org / 919-518-1093.
