EPA Announces New Federal Action Plan for Radon in Wisconsin

July 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Eau Claire, WI – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says they can save thousands of lives through a new Federal Action Plan on Radon, and Classic Radon Services is ready to help. The plan, in coordination with eight other Federal agencies, is designed to reduce the exposure to radon, particularly among low-income populations. The new Federal Action Plan will encourage radon testing and mitigation of publicly assisted housing, loans and grants to fund radon mitigation in homes of low-income families and efforts to facilitate the deductibility of radon testing and mitigation costs through Health Savings Accounts. Radon is an odorless, colorless gas that can seep up through the cracks and holes in the foundation of your home. It comes from the natural decay of uranium in the soil. When radon is trapped inside a house, the levels of radon can grow dangerously high and expose those living in the home to radiation, causing lung cancer or other serious ailments. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says radon kills more than 21,000 people each year.
