July 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Tooele, UT, July 23, 2011 -- Kristina Vorndran, a 16-year young Grand Prix style kart racer from MA becomes first female US Rotax Grand Nationals DD2 champion and will represent Team USA at the World Finals in Abu Dhabi.

In only her second season in the Rotax DD2 shifter kart class – the most powerful class in the Rotax ladder system – Kristina takes the victory on her CRG Dark Rider after a full week of practice and qualification races in 90+ degree weather on the 0.9 mile, 15-turn track at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT.  Kristina learned the track quickly and was fast from the first practice session on, even though she and her team had never tested or raced there before --unlike many other teams.

However, several technical problems in the heat races, including a disqualification because of a broken radiator mount denied her a top starting position in the main event on Saturday.

Nevertheless, after a good start she caught the leader within a few laps and both broke away from the rest of the field trading fastest laps between them. Half way through the race Kristina made her pass coming out of a hairpin and then pulled away setting fast lap of the race. By the time she took the checkered flag she had opened up a gap of 20 kart length.

Winning the National Championship earns Kristina a spot on Team USA for the Rotax World Finals in Abu Dhabi later this year, where the national champions from more than 60 countries around the world will battle it out for the ultimate title.
