Australian Websites Hacked Costing Millions

July 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Some Australian sites hosted over seas were hit hard by the Kosovo hackers.

Perth Internet Marketing http://perth-internetmarketing.com.au were hit hard with 10 of their older sites hacked which caused delays until they were repaired.

Peter Davis said: “We were quite lucky in a way, they only defaced the home page and denied access to the admin areas of sites. They did not destroy data. Once we found the cause and repaired the damaged files we were up and running again”

Viruses, Trojans and Hackers have been causing billions of dollars in damage over the years and are a true threat to the safety of the Internet.

This time it appears that the hackers found and exploited a fault in the popular WordPress platform to cause this latest round of mischief.

Administrators are denied access to their own sites virtually locking them out of any way to edit or update contents.

Home Pages display various messages and pictures dealing with the Kosovo and in particular the “ We remember them the Republic of Kosova hackers” messages splash across screens.

Unfortunately this group of hackers have hit all around the world and its important that administrators ensure that security is first and foremost in developing websites. Websites with the latest WordPress installed seem to be unaffected.

If you are running WordPress make sure version 3.2.1 is installed.
